Nanomaterial Engineering and Device Applications

Tailor made micro-nanostructured devices

Our group is involved in engineering the new material and devising novel device structures to develop micro-nanostructured devices in areas such as large area Broadband photodetectors, Bio-sensors, Corrosion inhibitors, photo-electrochemical water splitting and supercapacitors.  The use of State-of-the-art synthesis technology to tune the optical and electronic properties of variety of nanomaterials and their heterostructures enable improving the device properties.

The current research focus is on developing tailor made synthesis of nanostructured novel  devices based on transition metal oxides (TMO) and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) heterostructures using microwave assisted solid state method, Hydrothermal/ solvothermal, DVT, chemical exfoliation etc.  The use of earth abundant, environmental friendly and cost effective transition metal oxides and chalcogenide and its ternary hybridization with a unique structure is a new way of thinking for potential applications in optoelectronic and energy storage applications.

Engineering the electro-optical properties of 2D TMOs and 2D TMDCs of few-to-monolayers and nanosheets in the hybrid form and the formation of self-biased heterojunction photo-electrode is expected to be a new avenue in the field of photo-electrochemical applications. Basically, the two dimensional materials (2D) are compatible alternative to graphene and other related layered family members, the emerging applications ranging from catalysis to supercapacitors and electrochemical energy storage devices need to be explored in future.

We are concentrating on the development of novel nonprecious nanostructured catalytic materials with energy harvesting applications. Size and morphology tuneable Nano-heterostructures for multifunctional applications (optoelectronic, electrochemical applications, antimicrobial activities, and supercapasitors) are created using a state-of-the-art synthesis process devised in the lab.
